Indigenous Storytelling & Wisdom

We recognize that the land we stand on was stolen through a system of violence and systemic oppression. Indigenous voices take precedence in this space. We continually seek Indigenous Storytellers, Poets, & Historians to Share Wisdom, Myths & Lore.

We are hosting an intimate outdoor storytelling and music gathering in the heart of the San Diego desert, and we are seeking Indigenous voices—storytellers, poets, artists, craftspeople and historians—to share the rich history, myths, and celestial lore of this land.

Our gathering takes place in an open-air desert sanctuary under one of the clearest night skies in the world. Here, under the stars, we honor oral traditions, deep listening, and the sacred art of storytelling. We are especially looking for individuals who can share the stories of the Kumeyaay, Iipay, and other original peoples of this land—the legends of the stars, the wisdom of the earth, and the history that still lives in the minds and hearts of the elders and their offspring.

The systemic oppression that stole this land is not just history—it is an ongoing reality. To this day, state, county, and municipal governments perpetuate this oppression through practices that disproportionately target, ticket, and imprison Indigenous people, trapping them in cycles of financial indigence caused by the theft of their land, culture, and resources. The same policies that displaced their ancestors now criminalize their survival. We recognize that these injustices persist, and we actively welcome modern stories and firsthand accounts of these lived experiences alongside ancestral myths and teachings.

Format: Spoken word, storytelling, poetry, historical accounts, or traditional teachings

Honorarium: Donations available for participation
